Handi-Wipe Reusable Disinfectant Wipes

Reusable Disinfectant Wipes

I came across a “recipe” for these wipes on one of my frequent trips through Pinterest World and I have to say that they are as easy and as wonderful as promised.

Handi-Wipe Reusable Disinfectant Wipes

Purchase a package of 10 Handi-Wipes.  This will make 2 wide-mouth pint jars of wipes containing 10 wipes each.  If you don’t have wide-mouth jars, you can re-use a Clorox or Lysol wipe container, just be sure to wash it well since the ingredients are different.

Handi-Wipes are packaged with each wipe folded in fourths, with a fold at the top.  Cut along this top fold and you will now have 20 cloths.  I took each half and rolled them separately to make removing them from the jar easier.  (See picture.)

For each wide-mouth pint jar you will need:

½ cup water

3 Tablespoons Rubbing Isopropyl Alcohol

1 Tablespoon aloe vera gel

Mix ingredients well and pour over the rolled towels in your container.  Seal tightly and use as you would a purchased wipe – EXCEPT – once you are finished with the wipe, rinse it out and add it to your laundry and once all the wipes are gone from the jar you can make a refill for pennies!

If you are re-using an old Clorox or Lysol wipe container, you can roll all 20 cloths, 1 at a time, into a roll, adding the next cloth before you complete the roll you create with the first one.  Add each additional cloth before the end of the previous one so that they pull from the container the way the original, purchased cloths did.  Note:  if you are placing all 20 cloths in a container, you may need to double the recipe.

Note:  I added the aloe vera gel, but since I am generally using my wipes for household use, I don’t know that this ingredient is really necessary, but it will protect your hands a bit as you use them.  You decide if you think this ingredient is necessary for your purposes.

    1. Rebekah, I’ve used these almost exclusively for about a week now and I’ve had the chance to launder and reuse several. I will probably never go back to the disposable wipes even when they are more widely available. Not only are these mere pennies to prepare and use, I’m slowing the filling of our planet with discarded plastic containers.

Thanks for the update! I may give this a try – especially for the simplicity of the ingredients.
